New Youth Pastor : Jerad Watson

Pastor Kip writes a letter to the church:

Friends,

Please make plans to be at Silver Run this Sunday! Sunday will be a special day as Silver Run welcomes Brother Jerad Watson!

The entire Youth Pastor Search team and I, as your pastor, recommend Brother Jerad Watson to the church as our next Youth Pastor.

All of us see God's call in Brother Jerad's life. Brother Jerad is a deep Christian with a passion for Youth, Evangelism and Missions. He has been a teacher of youth since he was in the 12th Grade. Brother Jerad has a passion for preaching and teaching God's Word. He will lead our Youth to a deeper understanding of God's Word.

As you know, the Youth Pastor is a very critical position at Silver Run. Our Youth Pastor impacts the youth in our church, in our community and beyond. Our youth need a man to lead them that loves Jesus and that is called to the Youth Ministry.

Brother Jerad will be paid as a part-time Youth Pastor, but their is no such thing as a part-time pastor. Like any good pastor, Brother Jerad will be on call 24/7 and the ones he ministers to will be on his mind most of the time.

In my discussions with him, I know Brother Jerad is not coming to Silver Run for a paycheck, he is coming to fulfill God's call in his life.

In addition to serving our Youth and leading our Youth leaders, the Youth Pastor is called on to minister to the entire church when needed. Our duty as a church and in particular, my duty as pastor, is to make sure we don't overwhelm Brother Jerad with too many things to do.

Pray for Brother Jerad, Pray for our Youth & most of all, Pray for God's Will to be done.

"May the words of my mouth &
the meditation of my heart
be pleasing in YOUR Sight,
O LORD, my Rock & my Redeemer."

Psalm 19: 14

Light of the World!

Wednesday Night Service - August 10, 2011

Mr. Kevin is teaching the Youth that Christians need to set a good example to others and be the "Light of the World".

Scriptures:
John 8:12... Light of the World
Luke 8:16... Light should not be hidden. (You can light the world for Christ! God is our Lighthouse! He will guide you wherever you go. Follow Him & He will lead you)!
John 3:19... Right has become wrong. Good has become bad.
Isaiah 5:20... Light for Darkness. Sweet for Bitter.

Christians are to live differently. They are to live in the world, but not be of the world. (You need to know right from wrong and do the right things ALL the time)! You need to bring the knowledge of Christ to people who don't know Him. How do we do that?... Here are two keys:
  1. Share Jesus with others.
  2. Become a reflection of Jesus Christ.
Don't complicate stuff. We need to teach the world the truth about the Gospel and Keep It Simple! Don't keep your Light hidden. Let it Shine! Wake up and be Happy! The happiest a Christian can be is to see someone come to Christ.

Rick Warren wrote an awesome book called, "The Purpose Driven Life". He made a comment about...
2 Basic Reasons People Don't Know Their Lord and Savior:
  1. They never met a Christian.
  2. They met a Christian.
Our walk with the Lord matters. What we say and do as Christians matters and people are watching. You do influence more people than you know... so, Shine your Light for the Whole World to See! Set the Example and let Christ Shine through YOU!

Change

Wednesday Night Service -  July 27, 2011

Mr. Kevin is teaching the Youth about how we need to change to be more Christ-like. We may say, "I'm  good enough like I am". But, we need to see God's way to know He created us with a bigger purpose. You may have questions like...Why am I going through trial and tribulations?... How can I be a better Christian? ... Am I missing what God  wants for me in my life?

We are talking about...
  1. What does God mean by change?
  2. Why do we need to change?
  3. What is God expecting from me?
In the process of change, we have ongoing changes, inward changes, etc. Your Christian walk is an ongoing change. As you grew more independent, you started to change on your own. Sanctification plays an important role. You need to transform your mind and yourself for God's purpose. What is the purpose of Sanctification... To be more Christ-like. Persons of Change is You. When you were saved, you had an inward change from your heart and mind. God shows us who we are and what we need to change about who we are. He exposes to us our un-Christ-like thinking. You are a Special Agent, chosen by God. Your job is to help God establish His purpose. If you are faithful in small things, God is working on you to handle the big stuff. Your job is to Surrender. God is in control...not you. God's job promises you Salvation.

Don't be conformed to the world's way of doing things. Transform your mind. Read God's Word...the Bible and Apply it to your life. God wants you to surrender your will to Him. God's purpose is to save us from Hell. He offers Eternal Salvation. He sent a Comforter, the Holy Spirit to guide you to do what is right. God has called you to do God-size tasks. You do have a bigger purpose!

Controlling the Tongue!

Wednesday Night Service - July 20, 2011

Mr. Kevin talks about his experience at Mission Serve in Wetumpka, Alabama and how we all need to control our tongues. Jesus said he would hold us accountable for what we say and do. The Bible has A LOT to say about the subject. Not controlling what we say in anger can leave us with Regrets, Lost Relationships, Sorrow, etc. What comes out of our mouth can get us in trouble. The Book of James in chapter 3 talks about Controlling the Tongue and what we need to do.

Reasons Why We Need to Manage Our Mouth:
  1. Words determine where your life is headed.
  2. Words can destroy what you have.
  3. Words also reveal who you are.
If we have a mouth problem...we have a Heart problem! Real Change has to start from the inside out!

Scriptures:
  • James 3:5-6; 9-10
  • Proverbs
  • 1 John 3:16
  • John 3:16
  • Matthew 12:34
  • Ezekiel 26:36 (A New Heart)
  • Philippians 2:3-4
  • Ephesians 4:1-32
  • 1 John 4:4 (Ask God for Help)... Psalm 141; Proverbs 21:23
  • Proverbs 15:28 (Think before you Speak)
What do YOUR WORDS say about YOU?

From the heart...Ask God for Forgiveness, a Change of Heart, for His Wisdom and for His Help. God bless you!

Your Sexual Identity

Wednesday Night Service - February 9, 2011

This is the time of year that our Youth Ministry celebrates the month of February as "The Love Month"! We talk about the issues of Love, Purity and Sex from the world's point of view and showing the Truth that God's Word gives us to walk in Love....God's Way!

As we discuss the topic of sexual identity, we are confronted with friends, relatives and others that they have chosen the homosexual and lesbian way of life. Though homosexual and lesbian tendencies have been accepted by our culture, it is condemed throughout the Bible. Both Old Testament and New Testament explains that homosexuals and lesbians practice a lifestyle that is a perversion of God's intentions for them. (Leviticus 18:22; 20:13; Romans 1:26-27; 1 Corinthians 6:9-11; 1 Timothy 1:10)

God's Word tells us that those that continue to practice that type of lifestyle will not inherit the Kingdom of God, but will suffer God's judgment on them...there will be severe consequences of living in sin. (1 Corinthians 6:9-10; Galatians 5:19-21; Colossians 3:5-6; 2 Peter 2:1--3:13) So, what do we do when we find ourselves in this type of lifestyle? Know that God is a forgiving God! As with all sin, we ask God to forgive us and then we turn away from the sin. Sin cleansing is available for those who turn to Jesus! (Acts 2:38; Romans 3:21-26). In all that we do, we are to live holy, godly lives just like God tells us in His Word. (2 Peter 3:11)

But, can't I do what I want and God will still love me as I am? God's Love is Unconditional. He loves you no matter what you do...but, He cannot allow sin in your life. In the Bible, Paul answers this by saying, not all things are helpful; true Christians must lead disciplined lives. (1 Corinthians 10:23; Galatians 5:13) God created you for His holy enjoyment...with destiny and great purpose and your body is not to be used and abused for any reason... sexual immorality does not glorify God.

The Word of God talks about how fear can be used by Satan to tie us to something negative in our lives. (Job 3:24) That is why it is so crucial to break this fear focus. Those feelings and temptations do not have to seal your future destiny...only your Choices will do that!

Human sexuality is like a balance scale. That balance scale is affected by your natural temperament. All sorts of life experiences "possitive and negative" also help to lean that scale further in one direction or another. That is why certain factors in your upbringing / painful rejections can make this whole issue worse. Christ gives you the ultimate power to determine the outcome of those circumstances. Single parent families can unfortunately be affected by this.

We live in an over-sexed world with constant images in TV, in the newspapers, on the internet and even music that we listen to. The world is glorifying same sex relationships and fantasy-driven temptation is at an all time high. It is so easy to be confused and deceived by them.

Have you ever been taken advantage of by someone in your life? The mind games can be especially huge. They are only mental games energized by Satan to try to throw you off track. Whatever happened to you is not your fault. Some painful memories and baggage may remain but Christ want to be bigger than all that junk in your life! You alone decide if you are a victim or a Victor!

A few suggestions to help you deal with these challenges:
  1. The message shared is a Love Note from God.
  2. Read and Memorize Scripture to fight against Satan.
  3. Don't watch or listen to media with immoral suggestions. (1 John 4:4) Whatever you focus on you will fuel it! (Proverbs 23:7)...put your emotional and mental focus on the possitive, Christ honored things in life.
  4. If same-sex relationships become attractive to you, have the self discipline to stay away from that person.
  5. Deal honestly with emotional dependency. (Emotional Dependency- when another person becomes too important to your own personal sense of happiness and fulfillment). (The effects of it: you prefer to spend time alone with this person and you get very frustrated when you can't; you lose interest in most other friendships; you display emotional and/or physical affection for another person that is not normal in friendship; you become defensive and/or secretive when anyone says you are spending to much time together; you become overly concerned with the other persons problems, interests or life in general)
  6. Breaking up or off with an unhealthy relationship will be deeply painful. Prepare for a season of grief, depression and/or manipulation. Don't allow yourself to go in and out of the relationship when you become emotionally hungry. Have enough integrity not to give in.
  7. Get involved in a Christ-centered church. Many of your emotional, friendship and spiritual needs will be met while enjoying the fun and fulfillment of great Christian friends. Jesus so deeply loves and believes in you and wants to free you from your secrets. He came to put light on your situation and show you the truth...He sets the captive free!

A Call to Holy Living

Wednesday Night Service - January 12, 2011

One of our Youth Leaders, Art Lancaster steps in to teach on how we are all called to live a holy life. We need to set ourselves apart from the world's ways of doing things and follow Christ as He leads us.

Art starts by giving his testimony then teaches us from God's Word from 1 Peter 1:14...So you must live as God's obedient children. Don't slip back into your old ways of living to satisfy your own desires. You didn't know any better then.

3 Things We Get from Holiness:
  1. Self-control ...to control one's emotions (1 Peter 1:13)
  2. Holiness ...set apart from the world. Christ was set apart because He was born from a virgin and without sin.
  3. Salvation ...saving a person from sin or danger. Setting ourselves apart from the world to God.
Scriptures:
  • 1 Peter 2:21-22
  • Psalms 16:4
  • 1 Peter 2:1-3
  • 1 Peter 4:2
  • 1 Peter 1:13
  • 1 Peter 1:17
Notes:
  • To satisfy your own desires...isn't that selfish? If you choose to follow your own desires, you will stray from God.
  • What is an example of other gods? Money or worshipping any other thing other than God.
  • Be holy in everything you do, be holy like Jesus is holy.
  • How do you set yourself apart? Read your Bible and do what it says to do!
  • Choose to want more of God!
  • What are foreigners in the land? Aliens...when we choose to set ourselves apart from this world, we become aliens to this world. (Don't confuse this type of alien as one from another planet, but like aliens from other countries) Our true home is a much better place...heaven.
