Lies the World Tells Us About Sex (Part 1 of 4)

Wednesday night, February 10th, 2010 Pastor Shane was teaching the youth about the Lies the World Tells Us About Sex from John 8:31-32. We are saturated with lies and myths especially on TV about sex. Over the next 4 weeks Shane will teach:

1. Lies About Sex
2. Uncover More Lies and Myths and Reveal the Truth about Sex.
3. How Far is Too Far?
4. I've Messed Up...Now What?

The world has proven that sex sells and they want to sell you their stuff! So, what are they not telling you? That God has a better plan for you. God is the Creator of Sex and made it only for marriage. He designed sex with boundaries...for marriage.

Myths:

1. Sex is no BIG DEAL.
2. Sex is purely PHYSICAL. (Sex Ed says that it messes with your mind, heart and it IS PHYSICAL.) ...The strongest sexual organ is your mind! We need to learn to control what we are thinking!
3. God's DOWN on sex. (God created it...He gave us a whole book of love...Songs of Solomon/Song of Songs.)
4. Everyone is DOING IT.
5. It is impossible to be PURE.

After TV has made sex interesting to you and you have had sex...Here are the things you should know that TV doesn't show you:

1. Your sexual decisions will leave LIFE LONG MEMORIES.
2. Your sexual decisions can have LIFE LONG CONSEQUENCES.
3. The best sex lives are found in MARRIAGES WHO WAITED.

1. Investigate God's Plan. (John 10:10)
2. Search for God's Wisdom. (Ephesians 3:14)
3. Experience God's Forgiveness. (1John 1:9)
4. Enjoy God's Hope. (Mark 10:6-9)

Psalm 100: A Psalm of Thanksgiving

On Wednesday, Pastor Shane took us through a study on Psalm 100. As the Thanksgiving holiday approaches, how often do we really give thanks to God?

Psalm 100 (NLT)
Shout with joy to the Lord, all the earth! Worship the Lord with gladness. Come before him, singing with joy. Acknowledge that the Lord is God! He made us, and we are his. We are his people, the sheep of his pasture. Enter his gates with thanksgiving; go into his court with praise. Give thanks to him and praise his name. For the Lord is good. His unfailing love continues forever, and his faithfulness continues to each generation.

5 Things that Psalm 100 teaches us:

1. Joy- make a joyful noise...shout with joy. What brings you joy? Salvation, family, etc.
2. Gladness- worship the Lord with gladness...come before him, singing with joy. Be excited about Worship!
3. Dependance- acknowledge that the Lord is God!...3 Types of Dependancies: God is Lord! God is God and we are not! (He is our Creator!) God is our Shepherd! (protector)
4. Thankfulness- you can't give thanks unless you are thankful!...we are a selfish generation. Instead of thinking of yourself, think of others. It is better to give than to receive. What are you going to give!
5. Gratitude- For the Lord is good. The Lord is merciful! The Lord's love and truth endures forever! The Lord is faithful!

Our Part in the Great Commission

This week Pastor Shane talked about the Great Commission and what the youth can do to bring it together.

Jesus came and told the disciples, "I have been given all authority in heaven and on earth. Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you. And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age." Matthew 28:18

5 Areas in Student Ministry:

1. Reach the Lost (witness to those that have not accepted Jesus into their lives, invite friends and family to church, witness at schools)


2. Connect Students (go to Sunday School and Small Groups...learning about each other while getting to know God and His Word)


3. Grow (going to DNow and Snowbird...getting deeper into the Word of God)


4. Serve (doing something for others in Mission Serve, Sound Ministry, Greeting Team)


5. Honor God (putting God first in our Talents, Gifts, Treasures)--The Most Important Commandment: ...Love God with all your heart, all your soul, all your mind, and all your strength...Love your neighbor as yourself. Mark 12:28-31
